Sport, Leisure & Community
The directorate of sport, leisure and community encompasses elements that are both curricular and extra curricular. The directorate offers a broad and balanced content which uses a variety of teacher expertise in specialist areas. Extra-curricular and enrichment clubs and events are carried out by staff on a voluntary basis during lunchtimes and after college. A selection of these clubs included football, netball, rugby, cricket, indoor athletics, chess and the global rock challenge. Students are encouraged to attend any club to aid physical, social and moral development. Links have been established with clubs and organisations outside of the college and again students are constantly made aware of these and encouraged to attend. Links already established include Newport Cricket Club, Wight Martial Arts, Shorwell Netball Club and Seaclose Swimming Club.
The directorate also benefits from the local School Sports Co-ordinator programme who provide addition resources to help support college events and develop curriculum activities with the students.
During a students time at Christ the King College there will be opportunities to develop key skills of communication, application of number, improving their own and others performance, working with others and problem solving. Students will also be introduced to responsibilities associated with leadership in roles such as coach, official and captain.
